Tucked around a quiet corner in the heart of Traralgon, is a welcoming space where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together to learn, play and grow through music.

We are a music school, so learning and teaching are at our core, but at The Music Nook, music isn’t just about hitting the right notes.

Our goals:

  • Teach and learn music by experiencing music

  • Provide greater access to quality music education in the Latrobe Valley

  • Forge authentic connections within our community

  • Strengthen bonds within families, between not only parent and child, but across generations

  • Impact long-term brain and language development through music learning in childhood

  • Share the importance of music to the human experience

At The Music Nook, music fills the gaps.

We aim for every class to include:

  • An exploration of the “Elements of Music” including:

  • Beat: the heartbeat of music!

  • Rhythm: patterns of long and short sounds - the building blocks of not only music, but also speech/language development

  • Pitch: High and low notes

  • Dynamics (volume): Louds and softs

  • Tempo (speed): Fast and slow

  • Tone Colour: The different quality of sound that each voice and instrument makes

  • Singing songs and echoing melodies, exploring what our voices can do

  • Keeping a beat and echoing rhythms, using instruments and body percussion

  • Improvisation

  • Playing a range of percussion instruments, both tuned and untuned

  • Props and puppets

  • Storytelling

  • Movement to develop both gross and fine motor skills
