We are a music school, so learning and teaching are at our core, but at The Music Nook, music isn’t just about hitting the right notes.
Our goals:
Teach and learn music by experiencing music
Provide greater access to quality music education in the Latrobe Valley
Forge authentic connections within our community
Strengthen bonds within families, between not only parent and child, but across generations
Impact long-term brain and language development through music learning in childhood
Share the importance of music to the human experience
Our Philosophy
We aim for every class to include:
An exploration of the “Elements of Music” including:
Beat: the heartbeat of music!
Rhythm: patterns of long and short sounds - the building blocks of not only music, but also speech/language development
Pitch: High and low notes
Dynamics (volume): Louds and softs
Tempo (speed): Fast and slow
Tone Colour: The different quality of sound that each voice and instrument makes
Singing songs and echoing melodies, exploring what our voices can do
Keeping a beat and echoing rhythms, using instruments and body percussion
Improvisation
Playing a range of percussion instruments, both tuned and untuned
Props and puppets
Storytelling
Movement to develop both gross and fine motor skills
