Meet Darcy
Hi! I’m Darcy Whitty, a guitar tutor at The Music Nook.
I started playing guitar when I turned 14 and fell in love with learning new songs and challenging myself. Getting to experience this love of music with like-minded individuals at high school are some of my favourite music memories. I regularly performed in front of peers during school, and I have recently started doing some gigs at local venues.
These experiences with music have helped me to build my confidence and my identity, so music has definitely played a large part in my growth into who I am today. Music has helped me build strong connections with friends and family, whether it’s through sharing songs, jamming together, or simply bonding over our favourite artists.
I believe music is one of the most valuable things a person can have in their life. Everyone has that one song or artist that means something to them. What I love about the guitar is how portable and versatile it is. It’s easy to take with you wherever you go, whether you’re travelling, moving house, or playing a last-minute jam session. I can make music anywhere.
Five facts about me:
My favourite musical genre is Metal. My favourite bands include Sleep Token, Polyphia, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Linkin Park.
My first Band ‘obsession’ was Linkin Park. I fell in love with them at around 7 or 8 years old, after my cousin showed me ‘What I’ve Done’.
I am currently a second-year University Student studying a Bachelor of Education at Federation University to become a primary school teacher.
Fitness has been a large passion for me over the last 2 or 3 years, and has involved me becoming more social and comfortable in public environments, as well as trying to better my health and seeing how strong I can get (and testing out some dance moves in between sets).
My first performance as a musician outside of school was a last-minute call-up (on the day of the gig!) to open for a friend’s band. I had 3 or 4 hours to prepare 45 minutes of music before arriving at the venue, and it was exactly the push I needed to start expressing my love for music again.
